It’s December, which means CHRISTMAS! And it also means Christmas for all the beauty boxes. I’ve done quite a few beauty box reviews here, but December promised the best boxes which I couldn’t wait to share. I’ve subscribed to Look Fantastic, GlossyBox and Birchbox to see who has the jolliest of boxes this month. Look Fantastic was the first to arrive with a beautiful red and gold box and a few exciting items inside…
This Works, Deep Sleep Pillow Spray (RRP £18) 10ml Sample Size
I’m lucky enough to not have much trouble with sleeping, once my head hits the pillow I’m normally gone although every now and then it takes a little longer. I’ve heard about this spray quite a lot and I’ve almost bought it on a few occasions but at the moment I have a lavender room spray which gets me straight to sleep. This Works spray is a blend of lavender, camomile and vetiver which work together to (hopefully) drift you off into a deep, natural sleep. I found that it worked well, but just as well as my other lavender spray. Once I run out I’ll probably purchase this one.
Grow Gorgeous, Scalp Detox (RRP £28) 50ml Sample Size
I’m sure I’ve tried this before in a previous subscription box and I wasn’t very keen on it but I wanted to give the product a second chance. The first time I remember the consistency being very gritty and it still was, but this time it was easier to rinse out (unsure why) which made it a lot more pleasurable to use and left my hair feeling super clean.
Illamasqua, Hydra Veil Primer (RRP £34) 7ml Sample Size
I love trying more expensive brands because it means I don’t have to pay out a fortune to find something doesn’t work for me. This primer’s consistency I’m not a huge fan of (it feels like that jelly you get inside of a pork pie that makes me feel a little ill) but once it’s applied to the skin this texture changes into a smooth almost balm. The primer left a good tackiness to the skin, making a great base for make-up and I’ll continue using it, but I prefer something a little more moisturising, especially in the winter.
Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo, Brow Pencil, Full Size
I’m a fan of this brand collaboration as I’ve tried its lip liner and loved it. This pencil is thankfully in a dark brown, so I could use it. I much prefer using a pencil than pomade now as I find them so much easier and quicker and this pencils texture is just creamy enough to apply nicely through the brows. Once the pencil has warmed up a little the colour is more buildable and easy to define.
Dr Botanicals, Pomegranate Superfood Brightening Eye Serum (RRP £19) Full Size
I love using serums, but a lot say to avoid the eye area, so this fit perfectly into my skin routine. I’ve only been using this product for about a week and they say users normally see a difference within three. During the cold weather my eye area normally gets dry and irritable but so far this serum has kept everything hydrating and healthy and has been much more successful than I thought it would be.
Limited Edition Look Fantastic, Beauty Sponge, Full Size
I have an array of beauty sponges (with Real Techniques being my favourite) so honestly, I didn’t really need this sponge but I’m always open to trying new ones and it made a nice addition to the box. The texture is just a little harder than my regular sponge which made blending almost tiresome with it taking longer than normal and having to work it in more. The size and shape is similar to my others but it is a tiny bit bigger and once dampened the sponge became huge. Even with it being a little bigger it still took more time to blend products because of its density but it’s still a decent sponge.
This box, although it had some great products inside, was missing a little ~sparkle~ for Christmas. None of the products really screamed Mrs Clause to me which is disappointing even though I liked the products inside, it just didn’t fit the month in my opinion.
